A biography of Pierre Mendes France

Our school is named after this famous politician, so one of our students wrote an article about him.
Thanks to Mathilde D.C. ;-)

Pierre Mendes France

Born in 1907, he was a French radical-socialist politician, in his youth he fought within the League of Republican and Socialist University Action.
He was elected deputy of Eure in 1932 and became mayor of Louviers in 1935, and supported the Popular Front.
During the Second World War, Pierre Mendès France, who joined London, fought in the Free French Air Force and was a member of the French Committee for National Liberation.
In 1944, de Gaulle appointed him Minister of the Economy, but Pierre Mendès France resigned in April 1945 when the general refused to follow his austerity policy.
From 1946 to 1951, he moved away from politics and he worked for the International Monetary Fund of which he was elected president in 1948.
He was President of the Council from 1954 to 1955 and he signed the Geneva Agreements ending the Indochina War.
He then militated in the United Socialist Party and participated in the recomposition of the socialist left.
Pierre Mendès France retains the image of a model politician who marked the history of the IVth Republic, he died in 1982.

LGBT Rights

Our students in 1ere have worked on LGBT rights... Here are some of their pieces of work ;-)
Enjoy !!

The LGBT is a community created to fight against homophobia and discriminations. LGBT means
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. Today, we add a + at the end of the acronym to include all the sexual identities.

In France, the movement started in 1954 thanks to André Baudry with the creation of the
magazine “Arcadie” and in the USA in 1969.
It’s thanks to all these movements, demonstrations, and even riots that a lot of associations with different names have been able to see the light of day!

Finally, the acronym LGBT was adopted in 1980.

Created a long time ago, this community is representing by a rainbow flag invented by Gilbert Baker.

On this flag, each colour has a meaning :

This flag also called “pride flag” had before eight colours but because of the lack of availability of the colours pink and turquoise during the printing of the flag, they were removed.

What about LGBT Rights in Europe?
A few documents below !

Thanks to Cloe and Aurelia !

The theatre workshop

         The Theatre workshop

Hello, I am going to make a presentation of the high school Pierre Mendès France theatre workshop.
It’s been ten years since Mr Lebourhis started running this workshop and he still appreciates it so much.
All this time, he has seen students go, but above all, directors.
Indeed, almost every year, the school hosts new professionals like Robin Attrée who, this year, is responsible for directing the 9 students of all classes who are determined to improve in acting.
Moreover, the play they have to prepare is « Le bal des voleurs » written by Jean Anouilh.
A play they will perform at the end of the year at the high school for parents and in Aix-en-Provence because since its beginnings, the workshop has been in collaboration with Theatre Antoine Vitez.

Personally, I enjoy being part of this group, there is a very good   atmosphere and working doesn’t  prevent us from laughing. I've made a few friends and I  understand better the idea of speaking in front of an audience.

Before you leave, here’s a quote from Mr Lebourhis « What I like the most is to see students from all courses united for the love of art. ».

I wish you'll join us or at least come and see the play in a few months !

               Thanks for reading.

The origins of rap music

Origins of « Rap » music

« Rap » is a music type from the “Hip Hop culture” this is “street art”. It was invented in the ‘70s with “the scratching”, “the beatboxing” …

The first rapper was DJ Kool Herc who was doing some parties in the street of New York named “Block Parties”.

At the beginning rap was like funk and jazz and the first rap hit was “rapper’s delight” by “sugarhill gang”.

We can say that the founders of the “Rap” were DJ Kool Herc, “The Sugarhill Gang”, “Afrika Bambaataa” and “Grandmaster Flash” with his famous hit “The message”.

They all talk about street, drugs, gang… Except Afrika Bambaataa who was rapping to help younger people to develop their creativity.

Every single rapper had his own themes like politics (Public Enemy) or racism (Run DMC). Rap music is often criticized for the violence of  its lyrics, some people saying that this is not culture but this music type is one of the most listened around the world at the moment and some texts deal with life before rap music, poverty, street art and how they came out of all those problems.

“Rap” music is a real story.
